I started my blog, Geek Studies, as a way to keep my interviewees and professional contacts updated on the progress on my doctoral dissertation on geek and nerd cultures. Over time, the blog has grown to attract thousands more visitors than I ever anticipated, proving a useful tool both in conducting research and in discussing ideas with readers.
The site design is built upon the code of Aseem Azeez's White As Milk Wordpress template. The minimal approach is intended to remind myself to keep the focus on the writing, and to avoid too much loaded or stereotypical imagery prescribing what a 'geek' or a 'nerd' should be. The logo – depicting a television, a video game pad, and a book in a coat of arms – was an attempt to capture my academic interests, spanning a variety of media, in a playful way.
